Planning Ahead
If you're like me, you like to know what you're doing on any given Thursday. The third Thursday is always a given - Third Thursday Art Walk in Tacoma. Grab some friends and explore the art scene of Tacoma; just from the map on the website there are 11 places to go explore in the downtown area. Don't forget to visit the local independent shops and restaurants while you're there.
There is another way to explore the goodness of Tacoma on a Third Thursday ArtWalk, and that's the Art Bus. Tickets are $10 and include a button designed by a local artist, transportation on a Big Yellow School Bus to several galleries, and a good time while doing it all. The Art Bus starts the journey at the Tacoma Art Museum. Check out the Facebook post on the day of for a listing of galleries.
Now if that's not enough to get you out and about tomorrow night, there is the BYOP (Bring Your Own Pumpkin) carving at Embellish! Bring your pumpkin, yourself, the kids, and the neighbors! Come for the carving - stay to check out Scott McGee's artwork hanging in the salon.
A good time for all!

Small business owners and Tacomans alike should mark your calendars for January 31st!! The salon is all a buzz with talk of Go Local happenings and how could we not be with "Shift Happening" coming soon after the beginning of next year?!? I know it's kind of early to be thinking about 2011 because we haven't even made it past Halloween, Turkey Day, Black Friday or any of our Winter celebrations but it's creeping up on us whether we like it or not!!
Shift Happens is an event designed to celebrate local independent businesses and bring awareness of local business' roll in sustainability in our community. The day will unfold with a set of speakers on sustainability in business called "Be Green South Sound" peeling back to a Pecha Kucha segment about WASTE then peeling further into Go Local's Biz Fair and Key Note Speaker Event. Go Local will be partnering with City of Tacoma Office of Sustainability, Business Examiner, Tacoma ACTS & Pecha Kucha.
Exciting announcements will happen on that day so be sure to keep your eye out for more information!!
