It's Gritty and It's In Tacoma!!!

We've been getting a lot of questions about what the Grit City Fest is all about and for a second there we didn't really know how to answer that question!! Well, here's the scoop. The Grit City Fest is a Tacoma based celebration of art of all sorts, showcasing our beautiful and talented local music and art scene. Their mission states it clearly. Their goal is to "Throw a Kick Ass Party". With bands, djs and artists showing and playing at a multitude of venues, this is sure to be a spectacular way to soak in as much Tacoma love as humanly possible in one weekend. Yes!!! It's finally here!! All of your favorite Daymakers are super excited that the Downtown Tacoma Farmers Market on Broadway will be here in t-minus 2 days. This Thursday marks the first day of downtown's seasonal jewel of a market. With fresh local produce and local businesses with booths to tantalize your every sense, you're bound to be in for a spectacular treat!! Last summer we walked down on breaks and partook in some of the amazing food the market had to offer and even purchased some amazing produce and a few of the other offerings the market presented. Just think of all the fantastic dishes you can make with your produce purchases, what fancy places your can wear your new jewelry, and how full your belly will be once you devour your freshly prepared treats.... Keeping You Up to Date

As mentioned in a previous post we have dedicated 2 weeks of this month to lend a helping hand to two families in need. One being the Sanders family that was greatly affected by the death of Jim Sanders as a result of tragic Craigslist killing in South Hill. We will be donating 10% or your services from the sales of this week to the Jim Sanders Memorial Fund after we end our week this Saturday. This means there's still time for you to book in for a service to help with this cause.

We are also dedicating 10% of whatever service you book next week to Liz Whitacre (pic to the left) to help with some of her expenses while she's undergoing chemo therapy. Liz does not have medical insurance and during her treatment is no able to work. So this means if you mention this post when you come in for your service next week we will donate 10% of what you spend in the salon to help her during her time of need. Her sister Karyn has already thanked you in advance and appreciates your kind thoughts and donations.

If you haven't heard yet, two of our Embellish team members are also a part of the Surreal Ultra Lounge Team. After making people's days, Susan and Melanie gallivant off to Surreal to make days in other ways. With the flash of a smile and a wink if you're lucky, Susan can pour you mean Surreal signature drink or a creative martini and Melanie will serve you with that same sparkling smile that you've seen her flash while behind the front desk at Embellish.With Tacoma's growing interest in the lounge you're sure to hear that it's something that Tacoma's never seen before. With multiple VIP areas and a customer service focused bar staff, good times will be had no matter what day of the week you decide to drop in.

As of now, Surreal has been focused on building up their weekends and will soon have promotional nights during the week. They've brought in the likes of DJ Teddy who is now hosting Surreal's "Epic Friday", Pure Productions who will be rockin' out "Truth Thursdays" and local and out of town guest DJs to spice up their line up. After only being open for 2 weeks, Tacoma has been all-a-buzz with compliments on their impeccable service, a fun but relaxing atmosphere and a unique menu of sliders and appetizers that's bound the send your taste buds soaring!!

Lending a Helping Hand

As you all know, we are closely tied to our community. We have made it a priority and a part of our culture to stay involved and sometimes that means lending a helping hand when a member of our community needs our help.

Over the years we have had many opportunities to donate our time to many different causes and needs in our town. This month we have a few causes that are dear to us, our friends and our community and we would like to extend an invitation to you to help as well. How can you help you ask? Here's how!!

As you may know there was a tragic death recently in Edgewood. Jim Sanders was taken from us in a tragic Craigslist scam that has made national news. He was the close friend of Michael and Sonia Jewell of Jewell Day Spa and they have asked those of us in the community who can to not only keep Jim's family in our thoughts and prayers but to help our any way we can. Many have risen to the occasion and have given of themselves and we as Daymakers are donating the 10% of our proceeds from May 11th to the 15th to help his family. This 10% will be donated to the Jim Sanders Fund. Those of you who can help out the Sanders family can do so by simply by coming in for a service or by taking a moment and heading down to your nearest Bank of America and donating there.

Also...

In the beginning of January Liz Whitacre, the sister of a dear client of ours and a recent client herself, had a cancerous brain tumor removed from the left lobe of her brain. She is currently undergoing chemo therapy. Liz does not have medical insurance and during her treatment is no able to work. A fund has been established to help with the medical bills. We are donating 10% of the proceeds May 18th to the 22nd to help Liz out with some of her expenses. Again, you can help by coming in during that week for any service.

There's a Whole Lotta Learnin' Goin' On!!

This past week has been a busy one. Your favorite Daymakers have been buzzin' around soaking up knowledge in many forms. We are constantly on a quest for knowledge and as a team that's dedicated to growing, learning and remaining innovative we continue to hold education classes every Tuesday and even venture out to other realms to quench our thirst for knowledge.

Over the weekend, Trish and Susan left Tacoma and Embellish and took a trip to Renton to take a 3 day "Train the Trainer" course. For Trish, this was a refresher and for Susan this was a completely knew experience. With a jam packed 3 days, they crammed as much info as they could into their brains and managed to take away from it a revitalized love for Davines and step towards aiding others in their quest to know more about the fantastic Davines line.

At the homestead Thom, Heather and Eleanor refreshed their skills and tightened up their "Classic Bob" cutting skills. Using models, a real time cutting class was held and one model even took the time to leave a wall post on Facebook saying this: "I had such a great time being a "hair model" yesterday! Thom rocks. I love my haircut! Thanks for a great cut and a fun time!"


We are always striving to stay inspired and sometimes that means looking back and remembering our roots. Trish will soon be coaching other salons as she has done in previous years, sharing her love for Davines with others and Susan will soon be doing the same after a few more trainings taking her back to her roots in education. Thom, Heather and Eleanor will be rockin' out some kickin' "classic bobs" after their resent refresher and will be glad to share some of what they learned with those who are looking for a haircut that has always stood the test of time.
