All We Wanna Do Is Dance!!!

There have been musings around the salon about things around the T-town area that we can get involved in over the rest of the Summer and through the end of the year. We're going to be involved in some fundraisers next month (see previous post: Embellish and the Fab5) and there are other events that seem to have peaked the interests of your favorite Daymakers and clients alike. One true theme that seems to ring throughout the chorus is the theme of dance!!

Dance, dance, dance.... It's something that our bodies tend to do (some with more awkwardness than others) without us knowing it when we hear our favorite song or get a little giddy. We all have our own happy dance whether we do it in public or not. Your Daymakers see it sometimes when a client gets more out of their service than they ever could have imagined. It's a sign of happiness and a true expression of emotion.

With that said....

In the near future you may hear us talk about some of our dance related activities and one that has been touched on lightly is the Guinness World Record attempt at breaking the largest "Thriller Dance" record that was set last year. Details, if we so choose to take part, will be posted soon but we wanted to know what you thought about getting involved. Let us know what you think about joining in on the fun and where you think would be the best place to attempt such a feat. I bet we can all do Tacoma proud by helping to show the world just how "thrilling" we can be!!

What An Honor!!

It's always nice to be recognized. All of your favorite Daymakers would like to thank the Weekly Volcano for... well... making our day!!

If you missed the Best of Tacoma 2010 last night at Masa then you missed a good one. Many of Tacoma's finest were honored for their awesome-ness and a large number of well deserved recognition was cleverly delivered by two very lively and entertaining hosts. Tacomans from all over gathered together to give each other a round of applause. Good times were had and warm and fuzzies filled the room as all recipients and spectators basked in the glow of each other's awesome-ness!!

The Weekly Volcano's The Best of Tacoma

What are you doing tonight?!? Well, I hope your answer sounds something like, "Well, I heard there's going to be this awesome thingy going on at Masa today. It's the Weekly Volcano's Best of Tacoma 2010 Premiere Party....."

In t-minus 1 week we will be taking 10% of our sales for the month of August and donating it to NLF's Fab5. This group on particular has been responsible for different installments of the graffiti art on the side of our building and we'd like to thank them and give a little back with your help. Let you Daymaker or your receptionist know that you'd like to donate to the cause and we'll make sure these kids reap the benefits of your generosity. Also, there's buzz about a bbq happening to raise more funds so keep your ear to the ground and we'll make sure to keep you posted.

Lights, Camera, Action!!!

Rain or shine, hail, sleet or snow having great hair will always make a person feel like a million bucks!! That's why we at Embellish are working hard to make sure that when you walk out the door you have all the products, styling tips and tools that you will need to make your morning routine a successful one.

Right now we have Eleanor and Melanie working on a "magic brush" pamphlet and video tutorial which is slotted to be a feature on AOL's home page. We're also working on flip cam-ing some of our blowdrying techniques and quick style tips so, just in case you forget "that one step", you can reference the blog or our website for a quick refresher course on how to get the style you want.

Embellish and the Fab5

One of our first graffiti art shows was a showcasing of artwork that is a part of the NLF (National Leadership Foundation) initiative called Fab5. It's NLF's way of getting kids involved in developing their artistic skills as it pertains to the hip-hop culture. With little events in this town that involve hip-hop and our youth, NLF has taken steps to bridge the gap between pierce county and the youth of our community. Fab5 provides mentorship, leadership and positive role models that help foster and cultivate the youth's various talents in break dancing, emceeing, djing and graffiti art.


If you've seen the side or our building in the last couple of months you can tell that we definitely in support of the graffiti arts and we all know that we love the arts in general so we have decided to donate to cause that's dear to our hearts.

For the month of August we will be taking 10% of the proceeds of your services and donating them to NLF's Fab5. Just let your receptionist know when you make your appointment that you'd like to make that donation and we'll make sure we collect that and send that off to our artistic youth!!

Almost Like a Drive in But WAY More Awesome!!!

It was put to a vote because no one could decided on one movie and they've come to a decision. Go Local will be hosting an outside movie at Tollefson Plaza on August 19th after artwalk at 8:30. We will be showing "O Brother Where Art Thou". Raising Arizona got a LOT of votes, so maybe we'll have to do another one soon. Stay tuned for details!!!!

If This Isn't Beer Weather Then We Don't Know What Is!!

Word on the street is the Harmon Tap Room is open and the street is correct!!! We've had a hard time giving one of Kevin Murphy's new additions a proper welcome. The newest member of the Kevin Murphy's styling collections has won the hearts of all those that have had a chance to get their hands on it!! It's been described as a combination of the best of all three of its predecessors. It has the matte texture of the new formulation of Gritty Business, the tacky stylability of Sticky Business and the taming properties of Easy Rider. Good for all hair textures, you can blow dry it in for texture and hold or piece it in dry to give you the sexy lived in look that we all want but don't want to wait 4 days for!!

They Jumped the Broom!!! Congrats Thom and Cassie!!

We've all been eagerly awaiting the day that Thom, the newest new addition to our team, and Cassie finally said "I do" and they have. As of June 26th they officially tied the knot and we're finally seeing pics from their gorgeous Montana wedding. So what if I had to steal them from Facebook!! Ha!! At this moment they are trekking their way across states and slowly but surely are making their way back home. Thom will be back with us on the 13th and the Embellish team can't wait to hear the fantastic wedding stories Thom will have to share. I'm sure his memories of his special day will melt all of our hearts, that is if that big, orange, gassy mass in the sky doesn't do it first!!

Continueing Efforts to Green Up Our Act!!

If you've made a trip down to get your Embellish on in the last month, you may have noticed a change. We've shifted the front desk area around, moved our retail shelves to be more convenient for your shopping pleasure and we've added a new feature in the nook across from Well Being Space. We've had rave responses from those who have flowed through the changes with us and all have felt like this is the best feng shui- like shift we've made over the years. The receptionist space feels more inviting, the shopping space is more relevant to those in the mood to partake and the flow of energy from beginning to end has shifted to create a direction of ease and comfort for Daymakers and the Embellished alike.

Also...

If you take a quick look around the salon, we're continuing our efforts to be as green a salon as we possibly can. We're continually coming up with ideas on how to leave less of a carbon footprint and would like to eventually become a "Zero Impact" salon. With each step, we are proud to say that we are that much closer to reaching our goal. Quite a few of our clients have helped us out by purchasing the Davines canvas bags and have taken advantage of 15% off their future product purchases. We've also heard MANY compliments on on the fact that we've decided to toss the idea of offering bottled waters and are now offering fresh, ice cold glasses of cucumber lemon water. It's tasty, requires no plastic waste and makes for a refreshing addition to your Embellish-ment.

We'd like to thank Melanie for her ideas, efforts and encouragement. She's the main source of ideas and man power behind our green efforts and has taken the time to research, create the methods and find out just how green we can.
